Spotlight on Geelong
With a population of around 270,000, Geelong is Victoria State's second largest city. Located in Corio Bay (the western part of the larger Port Phillip Bay), the city was formerly an Australian industrial powerhouse. However, recent years have seen the decline of the manufacturing sector in the city, and the growth of tourism and technology businesses.
UNESCO City of Design
Geelong was designated a UNESCO City of Design in 2017, joining cities like Beijing, Bilbao, Montreal and Torino in the Cities of Design Network.
Gateway to the Great Ocean Road
Geelong has been called the Gateway to the Great Ocean Road, one of the world's iconic drives. The road starts 22 km south of Geelong in the town of Torquay, and features breathtaking natural beauty.
Geelong Attractions
From its beaches and waterfront to the Avalon Air Show to the local AFL football club (the Cats), Geelong has become a major tourist draw. The city offers a number of varied attractions making it well worth a visit by both Australians and overseas visitors.
